Local 57 was chartered on July 8, 1893 and holds the oldest charter in the Eighth District of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Local 57 currently represents approximately 2400 members and has statewide jurisdiction over all of Utah as well as parts of Wyoming and Idaho for Outside Construction, Utility and Telephone.
In 1938 the local union organized Utah Power & Light Company, which resulted in the first full time Business Manager – a construction lineman by the name of Eldon “Butch” Carter. Other Business Managers of Local 57 were Joe Nichols, Elsworth “Stub” Cleveland, Vince Pearson, Ralph Hedquist, Les Bell, Louis Felice, Blaine Newman and Byron Nielsen. Brent Donohue is the current Business Manager and was elected in June of 2011.
